Advantages with FUE Hair Transplants
Follicular Unit Extraction procedure requires no blades or scalpels. At MHTA, we use a special surgical instrument that is designed for FUE procedure. This instrument allows the doctor to create a circular incision around the hair grafts, enabling the extraction of hair follicular unit at a time. With FUE, hair restoration would be as natural as with strip harvesting procedure. The upsides to FUE procedure includes: very little bleeding, no visible linear scar in the donor area and short recovery period. With follicular unit extraction (FUE), there is no visible linear scar in the donor area. Patients have the freedom of wearing their hair short without feeling uncomfortable. Patients can also benefit from a more comfortable healing period and daily activities can be resumed in less time. It usually takes about five to seven days for the wound to heal completely compared to a two weeks period with the traditional strip harvesting method.
Ideal for individuals who like to wear their hair short
Useful for individual with high risk of scar formation in the donor area, especially Asians
Beneficial for repairing donor scars that cannot be excise
Minimal post-op discomfort
No restrictions on vigorous exercise after the procedure
An ideal alternative to strip harvesting procedure when the scalp is too tight for strip excision
Provide the option of maximizing the donor area (but not necessary the total number of grafts)
Allows the harvest of selected fine hair from the scalp to be used at the hairline area or eyebrows
Provide the option of harvesting non-scalp hair such as beard or body hair
Desirable when a limited amount of grafts are needed
The Disadvantages of FUE
The biggest and major disadvantages of FUE procedure are: time consuming and only a limited number of follicular unit can be harvested per session. What that mean is, because each follicular unit is extracted at a time, it can take a tremendous amount of time to produce sufficient amount of hair grafts needed. Therefore, it limits the number of grafts. Patients who need a large amount of hair grafts, more than 800 to 1200 follicular units, may require more than one session. Whereas with strip harvesting hair transplant, we can harvest as much as 5,000 grafts per session.
Our doctor is one of the experienced specialists in FUE field. He was trained by one of the best hair surgeons in the world. He has developed his own tool and technique which provides greater efficiency for follicular unit extraction (FUE) and has broken the record for 1600 hair grafts within a four hours surgery. This is an incredible breakthrough as this amount of grafts would normally take about 16 hours to accomplish. Our specialist has perfected the MHTA method and has provided many amazing results.
