Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, and Perlane are not of animal or human origin, therefore a skin test is not needed and you can have the Restylane treatments performed immediately. When treating wrinkles or folds, Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, or Perlane is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very thin needle. The Restylane injections give natural volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. A Restylane treatment takes about 15 minutes and the results can be seen immediately.
Restylane, is biodegradable which means that they will gradually be absorbed. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place, and when totally absorbed, the Restylane gel disappears unnoticed from the body. How long a Restylane treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity, as well as on the Restylane injection technique.
Clinical trials of Restylane show that Restylane, Restylane Fine Lines, and Perlane are effective for up to six months after lip augmentation and up to twelve months after facial contouring.

Restalyne is a cosmetic filling agent, commonly use to treat facial wrinkles. It’s made of Hyaluronic acid, which is a natural substance found in human skin. Restalyne consists of Non-Animal Stablized Hyaluronic Acid, called “NASHA” and it’s in a form of clear gel. Since Restalyne is made of Hyaluronic acid, it is found to be compatible to human Hyaluronic acid.
Restalyne provides more volume than collagen. Since Restalyne is made of Hyaluronic acid, an allergy test is not required. What is the difference between Restalyne and Botox? Restalyne is commonly used to fill in lines in the labial areas of the face and enhance lips, making it look pouty. Whereas, Botox® is used to relax muscles that create wrinkles commonly seen on face such as crow feet (wrinkles at corner of eyes) and frown lines (wrinkles in the glabella(forhead) area). However, when combined both Restalyne and Botox together, it can be used for deeper facial lines.
Restylane has been approved by the FDA for cosmetic use and has been safely used throughout the world since 1996. Because Restylane is non-animal based, allergy testing is not required. The most commonly reported adverse events are temporary redness and swelling at the injection site. These effects typically resolve within two to three days.
Restylane has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles as well as enhance the appearance and fullness of lips.
The entire procedure typically takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on the area treated.
Restylane treatments can be uncomfortable. The application of a numbing agent one hour prior to administration can help alleviate potential discomfort.
There are some precautions needed to be taken before receiving Restalyne treatment. One needs to avoid taking medications such as: aspirin, non-steroidal ainti-inflammatory agents (i.e. Motrin, Advil), St. John’s Wort, high doses of Vitamin E, and excessive alcohol intake. These precautions will help reduce the possibility of bruising at the injection site.
Before injection started, a numbing cream is applied. This will help reduce the pain. After the procedure, do not manipulate or pick at the areas for at least four to five days. If discomfort occurs, a mild pain medication such as Tylenol, which can be purchased over the counter, can help control the pain.
Restalyne injection can be done in less than 20 minutes. Normal activity can resume immediately after the injection. However, there may be mild swelling and bruising at the injection site. Swelling should disappear in three to four days, but bruising may take a little bit longer, up to one week. Concealer may be used to cover these side effects.
Studies have shown that average Restylane treatment results last six months when appropriate amounts of Restalyne is administered.
Restylane treatments typically last four to six months, so treatments are usually scheduled two to three times per year. Follow-on treatments are advised before the product has fully dissipated to help enhance a lasting effect.
Over time, Restylane molecules bind with water, resulting in the degradation of the product, which is then metabolized by the body.
