What to Know About Eyebrow Transplants What to Know About Eyebrow Transplants

Eyebrow transplants have been around for a surprisingly long time: They were first pioneered in 1939 and have undergone decades of continual improvement ever since, eventually becoming a "very popular procedure," as this journal article puts it.

The modern version was born in the 1990s, and now high-quality eyebrow enhancements in the Bay Area are available.

If you're interested in learning more about the process, the following information can help.

Who Might Benefit From Eyebrow Transplants?

People desire to increase the thickness of their eyebrows for a variety of reasons.

  • Some experience thinning eyebrows because of chemotherapy or age.
  • Alopecia may be a factor as well, and numerous other conditions can come into play.

The takeaway point is that no matter why your eyebrows are thin, San Jose hair restoration procedures targeted at the eyebrows may be able to help.

How Does An Eyebrow Hair Transplant Work?

Eyebrow transplants are outpatient procedures performed in a practitioner's office. These procedures do not involve general anesthesia but local anesthesia (meaning a small area is numbed) and oral sedation (which increases patient relaxation).

Local anesthesia is used on the back of the scalp, which is the area from which the practitioner typically removes the hair to be transplanted. The hair can be removed as a strip that is later segmented into single hairs, or individual hairs can be removed one at a time.

Follicles come along as part of the process as well, which is known as follicular unit extraction (FUE). Because the follicle comes, too - ”and not just a strand of hair - ”it can begin to produce hair in its new home in the eyebrow.

After that, the next step is to create tiny incisions in the eyebrow area. The practitioner then places the donor follicles into those incisions.

What Happens After An Eyebrow Transplant?

Following the procedure, new eyebrow growth will commence within three to four months, and results will reach their peak after six to eight months.

Experienced eyebrow transplant surgeons are usually able to deliver permanent results with just a single procedure, though certain circumstances may require a second procedure. While new growth takes a few months to become apparent, certain steps are necessary immediately following the procedure.

Practitioners typically prescribe pain medication, which will help with after-surgery pain (That pain subsides within two days). Antibiotics are prescribed as well.

In the future, because the donor hair will keep growing at the rate it grew on the scalp, patients will need to maintain their enhanced eyebrows at least once per week.
